Christmas at Cozy Casita is one of my favorite seasons, not just because the dogs look adorable curled up under twinkly lights, but because the holidays give us endless opportunities to bring enrichment into our dogs’ daily routine. From cozy sensory activities to festive foraging games, these Christmas-themed ideas are simple, affordable, and can make your dog feel calmer and more connected to you during a very busy season.
And the best part? You can do all of these right at home.
1. Frozen “Holiday” Lick Mat
Spread plain Greek yogurt on a lick mat and top with a few blueberries or crushed freeze-dried treats. Freeze for 1–2 hours.
This helps reduce anxiety, gives your dog a calming job, and buys you a few minutes to wrap gifts.

2. Christmas Snuffle Box
Grab an empty cardboard box and fill it with:
• Tissue paper
• Crumpled wrapping paper
• A handful of kibble or soft treats
Let your dog “search” for the hidden goodies. This satisfies their natural foraging instinct and burns mental energy.
3. Holiday Scent Walk (Inside!)
Place cotton pads in different corners of your home with dog-safe scents like:
• Cinnamon sticks (not powdered)
• Pine branches
• Vanilla
Let your dog explore and follow their nose.
Scent games can calm even the most excitable pups.
4. Christmas Themed “Unwrap It” Game
Wrap treats inside a dish towel. Then wrap the towel inside a small gift bag or a second towel. Let your dog “unwrap” the layers.
A fun, easy Christmas morning enrichment activity.
5. Winter Dog Treats
Blend a small amount of pumpkin purée with a little Greek yogurt and freeze in silicone molds.
These are festive, healthy, and a great mental break.

6. Stocking Scavenger Hunt
Hide tiny treats or favorite toys in different Christmas stockings around the house.
Let your dog sniff each one to discover which stocking holds the prize.
Simple, but dogs LOVE this.
7. Cozy Christmas Place Training
Place their bed near the Christmas lights or tree, give a long-lasting chew, and let them soak in the cozy vibes.
This teaches calmness even with guests, wrapping paper, and holiday noise.

Why Christmas Enrichment Matters
The holidays can be overstimulating for dogs with visitors, noises, new scents, and schedule changes.
